CANDLE CARE

How to care for your Wooden Wick Candle

Wooden candle wicks have a lot to offer. They last longer, are clean-burning and environmentally friendly. They do require a bit of extra care. Here are our top tips to get the most out of your wooden wick candle:

  • Trim the wick before each use, removing all charred wood from previous burns. A long wooden wick may not stay lit long enough to fuel the flame, causing it to  extinguish itself. Always do this when the candle is fully cooled.

  • Light your wooden wick from the base, closest to the wax, and ensure the full wick is alight. Lighting from the top could result in the wood burning itself out before reaching the wax.

Top tip: Use nail clippers if your finding it tricky to trim the wick.

General Candle Care Tips

To get the most out of any candle, here are some helpful tips. These are for both cotton wick candles and wooden wick candles:

  • On the first burn, allow the wax to melt across the entire diameter of the candle. This helps prevent tunneling, which impacts how well the candle burns.

  • Trim a cotton wick to 5mm, and a wooden wick slightly shorter

  • Keep the wax free of wick trimmings, matches and debris.

  • Do not burn for longer than 4 hours

  • Jars and tins can get very hot, so burn on a heatproof surface and don’t move until fully cooled down

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended

  • Keep away from children and pets
